Safety Generalist – Owners Rep (Indianapolis)

SMG is seeking a local Safety Generalist / Owner’s Rep in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The key function is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible regarding change and travel.

Overview of Job Responsibilities 

  • Act as the Owner’s safety representative on-site to ensure contractor compliance
  • Monitor daily jobsite activities for adherence to safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Conduct routine site safety inspections, audits, and observations
  • Perform risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Review and approve contractor safety plans and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
  • Participate in pre-task planning meetings and safety briefings
  • Lead and support incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis
  • Track, document, and report safety metrics, incidents, and corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with client safety standards, regulatory requirements, and site-specific policies
  • Interface with contractors, project management, and client stakeholders on safety matters
  • Provide safety guidance and coaching to field personnel and supervisors
  • Support contractor onboarding, safety orientations, and training initiatives
  • Oversee high-risk work activities (LOTO, confined space, fall protection, energized work, etc.)
  • Maintain clear and accurate safety documentation and reporting systems
  • Participate in project meetings to provide safety updates and address risks
  • Enforce site safety rules and intervene in unsafe work practices
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist with contractor prequalification and safety program reviews
  • Support compliance audits (internal and external) and regulatory inspections
  • Coordinate and follow up on corrective action items to closure
  • Support vendors moving equipment and furniture into a newly built hospital while ensuring safe work practices and minimizing risk to staff and facility

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of construction safety experience (preferred experience within the Healthcare industry)
  • Knowledgeable of safety/safety support on projects
  • Knowledgeable of risk assessments
  • Ability to add value in the field and project meetings
  • Degree in Safety or related fields
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Course
  • First-aid/CPR certification from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association
