Safety Advisor (Owensville, IN)

SMG seeks a Safety Advisor – Owner’s Rep for an April to June outage in Owensville, Indiana. This is a night shift position. 7:00pm to 7:00am.

The key functions of a Safety Advisor are to prioritize Safety, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change.

Overview of Job Responsibilities

  • Site safety observations, including documentation of findings
  • Facilitate corrective measures where warranted
  • Representing the contractor or Owner in progress meetings

Requirements

HSE Advisor with OCIP Exp.

SMG is seeking an HSE Advisor with OCIP experience in the Indianapolis, Indiana, area. 

This position will lead all aspects of the site Contractor Health, Safety, and Environmental (CHSEMP) program, including the following:

  • Performance of event investigation and performance evaluation as required in Contractor HSE Management Program (CHSEMP)
  • Must be proficient in root cause analysis
  • Administration support of claims management for all contractor-related events on the projects
  • Completing field observation reports and ensuring accurate documentation is entered into the tracking database
  • Translation of field observation findings into a summary format, including trend analysis
  • Participation in pre-bid and pre-contract meetings, as needed
  • Lead meetings from an HSE perspective and inform contractors/vendors in attendance of HSE requirements
  • Attendance at progress or contractor meetings as requested
  • Completion of process verifications to indicate conformance to the CHSEMP process
  • Assisting Owner employees during the Contract Firm HSE Qualification process
  • Prepares and provides reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action to appropriate customer personnel
  • Ensures work activities align with Owner, OSHA, and state regulations

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety from a four-year college or university, with a minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience
  • Professional Certification is desired. If not, the Advisor must be willing to obtain it
  • Ability to interpret and apply in practice, construction, and environmental information from all codes, standards, regulations, Federal and State laws, and applicable regulatory documents
  • Experience and a general understanding of industrial hygiene applications and process contractor HSE Advisor management requirements
  • Capable of providing contractor HSE Advisor support to various trades/services, including (but not limited to) facility maintenance, laboratories, housekeeping, and project construction
  • Have thorough knowledge of lead/asbestos regulations and hazardous waste handling
  • Prior experience/knowledge of risk management, statistical methods, and behavior-based contractor HSE Advisor concepts
  • Prior experience in program development and technical writing
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint and Microsoft Office products, including Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with statistical control methods.
  • Experience with Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP)

Site Safety Representative (Indianapolis)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION (SUMMARY)
Seeking construction site safety representatives with at least 5 years practical experience in a fast paced, self-directed environment. Ability to successfully interact with all levels of construction personnel is a must.
Multiple positions available. Past training experience required. OSHA 510 certification or equivalent prerequisite required and OSHA 500 certification a plus. With several positions available, local and regional positions exist. The location of the work could potentially require applicants to temporarily relocate to the area where work will be conducted and extended stay facilities will be provided. Technical degree, transcripts, references, and sample of technical writing will be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, but are not limited to)
• Develop and maintain the expertise to provide instruction in technical areas of safety training.
• Perform site safety audits, complete comprehensive report of findings, including corrective plans and recommendations to ensure compliance.
• Prepare detailed reports of findings using appropriate forms, diagrams, photos and narratives to provide a clear understanding of exposures.
• Examine work sites to identify hazards in the workplace and on work sites and look for sources of potential injury to those at or near location.
• Conduct OSHA compliance and safety assessments.
• Project management to ensure project goals are met as well as technical excellence, quality and client satisfaction.
• Perform accident and injury investigations to identify safety violations and determine root cause and corrective actions.
• Manage client relationships and services on an ongoing basis.
• Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety or related field of study with 5 years of experience OR 10 years of relevant safety experience without a degree.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to develop professionally prepared technical report and documents.
• Knowledge of Construction OSHA (29 CFR §1926) standards and regulations.
